The method involves selecting a sub volume of images in a volume corresponding to initial acquisition of three-dimensional images by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and choosing a luminosity threshold. Voxels are selected in the sub-volume by comparing a function value of a luminosity of the voxels and adjoined voxels with the threshold. The comparison operation is iterated several times by changing the threshold at each iteration, and a three dimensional (3D) image is reconstructed. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a three dimensional (3D) imaging system having processing unit for implementing a three dimensional (3D) image processing method (2) a computer program comprising instructions for implementing a three dimensional (3D) image processing method.
