The device has a reader (2) to read a magnetic track extending on a side of a card and an electronic component e.g. chip, present on another side of the card. A box (5) surmounting the reader allows insertion, by a card carrier, of a confidential code assigned to the carrier. A plastic flap (8) integrated at guiding slits in a frame (10) slides between a lower position in which it exposes an opening of another slit to insert the card in the reader and blocks the reader to avoid insertion, and an upper position in which it covers lower keys of the box while exposing their upper surface.
