A system for controlling the operation of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle comprising a kinematic transmission chain of torque with a gearbox, comprising means (5) for measuring the instantaneous rotation speed of the engine and filtering means ( 4) oscillations of the measured instantaneous rotational speed signal, characterized in that it comprises a calculation means (1) for calculating at each instant a rotational speed modeled from the instantaneous transmission ratio of the gearbox and the speed of movement of the vehicle, the filtering means receiving as input the value of this modeled rotational speed and the measured value of the instantaneous rotation speed of the engine.
