The device has mobile rings (17) presenting a central opening (17a) interposed between adjacent fixed rings (15), and movable with respect to the fixed rings. Each screw (11) of a screw conveyor is rotating mounted around an axis of rotation across central openings (15a, 17a) of the fixed and mobile rings. A screw driving device has driving units to drive the rings (17) to move each mobile ring along the periphery of the opening (15a), so that a portion of an inner perimeter of each mobile ring is tangent to a portion of that of each fixed ring, under the control of the driving units. An independent claim is also included for a method for movably driving the mobile rings with respect to the fixed rings around the screw conveyor.
