Digital pulse compression method for measuring distance separating radar and e.g. aircraft, involves developing phase code with phase values varying based on quadratic law, and emitting pulses whose phase varies based on phase code
The method involves developing a phase code, in digital form, comprising specific phase values varying based on a quadratic law. High frequency pulses (20-26), whose phase varies based on the phase code, are emitted, and signals acquired in response to the emitted pulses are received. Phase and amplitude of the signals are extracted, and the extracted signals adapted to emitted pulse duration are filtered. The extracted and filtered signals are sampled and coded for obtaining the code in digital form in a remote case where a signal is present, and the code is calculated from Fourier transform. An independent claim is also included for a radar for implementing a digital pulse compression method.
