The method involves storing confidential characteristic events and secrets, in a storage unit (8) e.g. chip card, where each secret triggers the events. A secret is input by a user, via a data input unit. The secret that is input corresponds to one of the stored secrets or not is verified through an information system. The stored confidential event corresponding to the input secret is emitted through the system via a data presenting unit. A secured operating mode is authenticated by the user upon identifying the emitted event. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for authentication by a user of a secured operating mode of an information system (2) a computer program comprising program code instructions for executing the steps of a secured operating mode authentication method.
