The device has a fuse (3) mounted in series with a bimetallic thermostat (4) and connected to a rigid wire (2) of a power supply which supplies the device. An output of the thermostat is connected to a rigid power supply lead (5) of a resistance (6) inserted in a heating element (7). A flange (B) sealing an electric water heater carries the heating element and a thimble (DG) containing the fuse and the thermostat.
