The covering material complex, comprising an outer visible layer (1) and a foam backing layer (2), is made with at least one local relief shape that is maintained by an adhesive coating (4) applied to the back of the foam layer and having sufficient rigidity when dry to keep the shape when no pressure is applied to it. The relief shape can be concave or convex, and the adhesive coating, e.g. 0.5 mm thick for a 5 mm thick material complex, can be a hot-melt polyolefin adhesive that does not harden on drying, applied by hot-spraying and cooled by an air jet after application.
