The method involves connecting a portable data storage device (30) to a communication device. A list of configuration parameters accepted by the communication device is downloaded from the communication device towards the device (30). The device (30) is connected to a set of communication devices e.g. television, where the devices exchange information with the communication device. The downloaded list is transmitted from the device (30) to the devices. An automatic configuration program of the communication devices is executed based on the list. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a portable data storage device for the configuration of a communication device in a network (2) a system for configuration of a communication device in a network.
