The scanner has two guide units (3, 4) e.g. servo motor assemblies, for guiding a degree of freedom in translation and a degree freedom in rotation of an electromagnetic radiation source (2) e.g. ultra violet source, to obtain different relative positions of the source with respect to an object (7). The different relative positions of the source permit a charge coupled device (CCD) camera (1) to capture two images of the object, where each image corresponds to the relative positions for other relative position of the camera with respect to the object. An independent claim is also included for a three-dimensional acquisition method.
