The device has intake and exhaust cam shafts (5, 7) on a cylinder head (2), and intake and exhaust cam shafts (6, 8) on another cylinder head (3) of an internal combustion engine. A distribution synchronous belt (21) connects the cam shafts (5, 7) of the cylinder head (2) to a crankshaft (4). Relay transmitting units (22, 23) connect the cam shafts (5, 7) to the cam shafts (6, 8) of the cylinder head (3). The cam shafts (5, 7) are provided with variable setting units for angularly shifting the cam shafts with respect to pinions.
