The device has an exhaust gas pipe (2) assuring evacuation of gas entering a thermal engine (5) and leaving a military vehicle. A reservoir contains a coolant e.g. water, and a setting unit for setting the coolant under pressure. An injecting unit (1) injects the coolant in the form of a colloid or in the form of droplet in the flow of exhaust gas. The injecting unit is arranged at the level of an outlet (4) of the pipe. An independent claim is also included for a method for cooling an exhaust gas of an engine of a military vehicle.
