The assembly has an inner ring (10) with a raceway (16) for a rolling body e.g. ball, where the raceway is protected from exterior by a flange (18) forming a peripheral chamfer (20), a cylindrical seating (22) and a stop (26) projecting radially with respect to the seating. The stop has a sharp edge (28) turned toward the seating. A metallic reinforcement (12) forms a cylindrical fixation skirt (30) and a deflector (32). The skirt of the reinforcement is press fitted on the seating so that an axial flange (34) of the skirt is progressively cut along a part of its thickness by the edge (28). An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a metallic reinforcement comprising a cylindrical skirt and a deflector on a bearing ring defining a geometrical rotation axis.
