The method involves acquiring raw data of configuration tables of elements of a computer network during successive main pooling. A value of checksum for each element with the data that is sensitive, is calculated and stored. A secondary polling permits to retrieve new sensitive data of corresponding elements. The value is compared with a new value of checksum calculated with the new sensitive data, at the secondary polling for each element. The data of a topology relating to the corresponding element is updated in a database of the topology, for each element, when the values are different. An independent claim is also included for a server for detecting the change of a topology of a computer network.
