Process for preparing an isolated 5-(N-2,3-dihydroxypropylacetamido)-2,4,6-triiodo-N-(2,3dihydroxyethyl)-isophtalamide compound (ioxilan) (I) comprises atomization of an ioxilan aqueous solution. Independent claims are included for: (1) a isolated ioxilan product obtained by the process and it has an instant solubility of at least 500 mg of iodine/mg and at a temperature of lower than 40[deg]C; and (2) a sterile injectable solution comprising (I) having 300-500 mg of iodine/ml, preferably 350-450 mg of iodine/ml.
