The device has a rear sliding frame (5) situated at the rear of a commercial vehicle and mounted slidingly with respect to a chassis (1) of the vehicle. A pneumatic cylinder (10) permits to actuate the frame to an active position in which the frame is projected with respect to the rear of the vehicle. Springs (12) permit to actuate the frame to a retracted position in which the frame is not projected with respect to the rear of the vehicle. The frame is slid in the retracted position so that the frame is spaced from an obstacle when the obstacle is detected.
