A communication system switching between multiple antennas with different frequency characteristics

A communication system 10 and a method of its operation comprises selectively connecting 12 a communication circuit 14 to at least one of multiple antennas 16a 16b, 16c. Each antenna 16a, 16b, 16c is optimized for operation in one of multiple designated frequency bands. The communication circuit 14 may be a transmitter, receiver or transceiver for use in vehicles. At least one or each of the designated frequency bands may be narrow and considered to be a single frequency. A control circuit 18 may be used to select at least one of the antennas which correspond with at least one of the desired operational frequency bands. The system is intended for use in vehicle systems such as: remote keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring, remote control of garage door opening systems, vehicle immobilization and voice activation controls.
