A turbine engine assembly comprising a contra-rotating fan assembly discharging air directly into the high pressure compressor

A turbine engine assembly 10 comprises a core gas turbine engine 12 including a high-pressure compressor 26, a combustor 28, and a high pressure turbine 30, and a counter-rotating fan assembly 16 coupled to said core gas turbine engine such that air discharged from said contra-rotating fan assembly is channelled directly into an inlet 22 of said high-pressure compressor (HPC). Ideally the high pressure turbine 30 is connected to the high pressure compressor 26. A low pressure turbine 14 may be coupled to one fan 50 to rotate it in one direction, while a gearbox 100 (see figure 2) connects the low pressure turbine (LPT) to the second fan 52 such that it rotates in the opposite direction. The gearbox may enable the fans to rotate at different speeds. A method of assembly is also disclosed.
