Method for storing recovery data at a remote site as chucks of data covering known time periods, with synchronous data sent to a local minimal storage

Disclosed is a method for storing recovery data at a remote destination or location. The data is sent in chucks, each of which represents data covering a known time period, with a subsequent chuck covering the immediately following time period. Synchronous data, corresponding to the data chunks, is also sent to a local minimal storage location such that the local store contains data that is not stored on the remote store and the remote store contains data that is not stored locally. An indicator that a new chuck of data is being sent is provided to the storage locations. The data stored in the remote store may be older than the data stored locally. The data stored at the local store may be stored as a linked list of elements, which are sorted according to the location of the data source or according to the order of receipt. A local cycle number may be provided at the local store and be incremented when the new data chuck indicator is received.
