Door closer having hydraulic damper comprising compressible foam accumulator

A door closer 2 comprises a housing 4 fitted within a door and a tensioning member 54 having a first end connected to a door frame and an opposite end connected to a hydraulic damper 30 mounted within a central bore 6 of the housing. A spring 38 is fitted within the bore 6 and acts as a biasing means to move the door to a closed position. The damper 30 includes an accumulator 90 having a compressible foam body within the hydraulic damper. Also disclosed is a tool 200 for holding the door at a position mid-way between the open and closed positions to allow fitting of door closer.
