PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a detection means, especially a visualization technique for quantitatively predicting the risk of the destruction of structures caused by stress corrosion cracking, and to perform long-term lifetime management, though the stress corrosion cracking which is one of the important degradation modes of metallic materials has difficulties in observing phenomena including the occurrence process, and to develop especially an observation technique which observes with a sufficient sensitivity the phenomena at a small-scale and rather probabilistic nature stage in the very beginning of crack occurrence (the formative period of crack germination).;SOLUTION: Local and transitional dissolution phenomena are visualized by adding substances into the surroundings which initiate coloring reaction with the cation of the main component of the metallic materials.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
