PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To finely adjust a polarization mode dispersion caused by manufacturing errors of two-dimensional photonic crystal resonator.;SOLUTION: In the resonator constituted by forming point defects in a two-dimensional slab type photonic crystal, the periodic structure of a refractive index of a grating point which is not one approaching closest to the point defects is varied asymmetrically with respect to a first light confining direction (X-polarization direction) and a second light confining direction (Y-polarization direction) orthogonal thereto, thereby eliminating the difference of resonance wavelength between the X- and the Y-polarization modes of the resonator.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
