PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine and a program capable determining whether or not the sewing of a prescribed pattern is possible with the colors and the amounts of threads in hand.;SOLUTION: A reader/writer reads thread information from wireless tags of thread spools within a communication range (S1). When a pattern is selected (S15: YES), the amounts of colored threads necessary for the pattern are calculated from sewing data (S20). The read thread information is compared with the necessary amounts of threads and whether the sewing is possible or not is determined (S25). When the sewing is possible (S25: YES), the sewing machine detects the amounts of the threads consumed while sewing, calculates the residual amounts of threads based on the read amounts of threads and the amounts of threads consumed (S52) and updates the amounts of threads of the respective tread spools (S60). When the sewing is impossible, the similarity of the thread color is calculated (S40) and a thread with the highest similarity is defined as a use candidate (S42).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
