PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer method capable of transferring content data stored in an information home appliance to a portable terminal in a very short period of time, and to provide a server and a program.;SOLUTION: A set top box (server) receives TOC (table of contents) information including a plurality of content IDs from the information home appliance (information device). Next, the set top box transmits the TOC information to the portable terminal, the portable terminal makes a user select the content ID of content data to be recorded in the portable terminal in the TOC information, and the portable terminal transmits the selected content ID to the set top box. Then, the set top box transmits the selected content ID to the information home appliance and receives content data corresponding to the selected content ID from the information home appliance.
