PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for detecting moisture absorption of insulator type lightening arrestors and capable of detecting whether a liquid has intruded inside insulator type lightening arrestors or not and provide a method for detecting moisture absorption degradation of insulator type lightening arrestors.;SOLUTION: In the moisture absorption detecting method, moisture absorption of an insulator type lightening arrester 100 including both a zinc oxide element 101 having zinc oxide as a principal component and a remaining part made unavoidable impurities and an insulator tube 102 housing the zinc oxide element 101 inside and made of an insulator is detected. Terahertz waves are radiated to the external surface of the insulator type lightening arrester 100 in a radiation process. Terahertz waves reflected from the zinc oxide element 101 are received in a reception process. The waveform of terahertz waves received in the terahertz wave reception process is detected in a detection process. The waveform detected in the detection process is compared with and analyzed against a waveform in a normal state to inspect an inside state of moisture absorption in an inspection process.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
