PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply grind an external surface including a peripheral surface and an end surface of a workpiece with one grinding wheel without complicating a relative movement mechanism of a spindle head for supporting the grinding wheel.;SOLUTION: The rotating axis line TA of the spindle head 4 for supporting the grinding wheel 3 is obliquely tilted to the rotating axis line WA of a head stock 1 for supporting the workpiece 10. A CBN grinding wheel having wear resistance is used for the grinding wheel 3, and the cross sectional shape of the external peripheral surface 3a is made to be an R shape. The external peripheral surface 3a of the grinding wheel 3 is ground while point-contacting with the external surface of the peripheral surface and the end surface or the like of the workpiece 10 having an arbitrary inclined angle at the any point of the R shape. The wear of the grinding wheel 3 is suppressed by the point contacting, and the external surface including the peripheral surface and the end surface of the workpiece 10 can be ground with one grinding wheel 3 without complicating the relative movement mechanism of the spindle head 4.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
