PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect inspection device before crimping a wire and a defect inspection method before crimping a wire capable of correctly individually determining presence of respective defects of a crimp blade die, a crimp terminal, a wire core part and a wire covering part before crimping the wire at low cost.;SOLUTION: This defect inspection device before crimping a wire is provided with: a light emission part emitting light and a light reception part receiving light from the light emission part which are arranged oppositely to each other at a predetermined distance; a crimp blade die arranged between the light emission part and the light reception part; a supply means supplying, on the crimp blade die, at least one of a crimp terminal crimped to a wire, a wire core part of the wire, and a wire covering part of the wire; a shade state identification means identifying a shading amount of at least one of the crimp blade die, the crimp terminal, the wire core part and the wire covering part; a comparison means comparing the identified shading amount with a previously-stored reference shading amount; and a determination means determining presence of a defect of at least one of the crimp blade die, the crimp terminal, the wire core part and the wire covering part based on the comparison means.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
