PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect more surely an unacquired road in order to update map data used for a car navigation device, or the like.;SOLUTION: Each vehicle 3 is provided with a road information updating device 4, and mutual communication with a map center 2 is performed via a network. In the road information updating device 4, a map matching processing part 4b performs map-matching processing between a vehicle traveling locus and existing map data provided from the map center 2; and when a non-matched moving locus continues up to a prescribed long distance threshold or higher based on a result of the map matching processing, an unrecorded road detection part 4c determines that the moving locus is an unacquired road. In addition, the moving locus is determined as being an unacquired road, when the moving locus to be matched, after being considered to be non-matched is shorter than a prescribed short distance threshold as a result of the map-matching processing. Then, a transmission data generation part 4d generates transmission data, including unacquired road related information related to the moving locus and transmits the data to the map center 2, to thereby update the existing map data.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
