PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop a countdown operation of remaining time in a self-timer photography if necessary without adding a remote control function. PSOLUTION: When a predetermined photographing mode is set, display of a through-image is started, and simultaneously processing to continuously recognize the face of a specified person previously stored as image data on successively picked-up subject images is started. When the specific person A enters an angle of view (b) and his (her) face is recognized on the subject image, the countdown of the remaining time until self-timer photography is to be performed is started. Thereafter, the face of the specified person A is continuously recognized on the subject image during the countdown operation. When the face of the specific person A cannot be recognized, the countdown operation is temporarily stopped at such a point of time.
