PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge device which can prevent a blank shoot involved in discharging ink even if there is no ink in an ink vessel and a method of judging that there is no remaining liquid.;SOLUTION: The liquid discharge device permits ink consumption X, ink consumption Xr at the time when it is detected that the remaining quantity of ink is at a boundary level L₀ at the end, and a boundary level flag can be recorded in a consumption memory 19 provided in an ink cartridge 16 used for a printer, judges whether or not the boundary level flag is already recorded in the consumption memory 19 when the printer is powered on. If the flag is recorded, the ink consumption X and the ink consumption Xr recorded in the consumption memory 19, and a boundary remaining liquid quantity Y₀ at the boundary level L₀ are used to determine whether the remaining quantity of ink is zero or not.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
