PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-treating agent for preparing a flame-retardant composition having nuclei of magnesium hydroxide grains which agent attaches homogeneously to a surface of magnesium hydroxide grain and imparts flame retardance with sufficient water resistance to products without injuring characteristics inherent in a synthetic resin when kneading, for example, the synthetic resin with the flame retardant composition prepared by using the agent and molding the products from the kneaded, to provide a method for preparing the flame retardant composition using the surface-treating agent, and to provide a flame retardant composition obtainable by the method.;SOLUTION: An alkenylsuccinic acid anhydride having a 14-60C alkenyl as the substituent is used as the surface-treating agent for preparing the flame retardant composition having nuclei of magnesium hydroxide grains.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
