MIRROR-FINISHING METHOD AND MACHINING BODY FOR MIRROR-FINISHING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mirror-finishing method and a machining body for mirror-finishing, efficiently machining material hard to cut, and obtaining an excellent surface smoothness.;SOLUTION: The machining body 1 comprising a ceramic molding containing zirconium-contained cerium oxide particles having oxidation catalytic action and mechanochemical action and resin binding the above, which are respectively made of material softer than a work piece, is used to apply the machining body 1 on the work piece by a movement transfer method, thereby performing mirror-finishing. In machining, an oxide layer is generated on the surface of the work piece 5, and simultaneously the particles causing the mechanochemical reaction are applied on the oxide layer by the movement transfer method to cause solid phase reaction. A product material due to the solid phase reaction is mechanically removed to create a very smooth mirror-finished surface without a machining damage layer.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
