PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for detecting a feature. PSOLUTION: The method based on one embodiment accesses digital image data representing an object, accesses reference data including a configurational model relating to configurational deviation from a baseline object and a probabilistic atlas including a probability relating to a feature in the baseline object, performs configurational positioning for the object by representing the configuration of the object using the configurational model to obtain a positioning configuration, and determines a probability for the feature in the object by generating a correspondence between a geometric element associated with the probabilistic atlas and a geometric element associated with the positioning configuration.
