PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of promoting the dissociative adsorption reaction of a molecule having a covalent bond with the use of a spin-polarized platinum and its utilization.;SOLUTION: The reaction is promoted by lowering the activation barrier of a specific step in the dissociative adsorption reaction of a molecule having a covalent bond with the use of a catalyst containing a platinum atom which can interact with another molecule by one atom or a film having a platinum cluster composed of a plurality of platinum atoms.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
