PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce or eliminate the occurrence of skewing in a hydrodynamic fluid film journal bearing assembly.;SOLUTION: A hydrodynamic fluid film journal bearing assembly 10 includes a journal sleeve 12 having a key slot 22 formed therein in a substantially longitudinal direction, a bump foil 28 wrapped in a substantially cylindrical shape adjacent to the journal sleeve 12 and provided with a bent end 34 engaged with the key slot 22, an intermediate foil 30 wrapped in a substantially cylindrical shape adjacent to the bump foil 28, a top foil 32 wrapped in a substantially cylindrical shape adjacent to the intermediate foil 30, a first cut-away window 50 formed adjacent to the bent region 38 and a first end tab 46 formed at a free end of the top foil 32. The first end tab 46 is wrapped with the top foil 32 in the substantially cylindrical shape, and extends into the first cut-away window 50, thereby reducing skewing.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
