PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a topology detection method which is capable of detecting not only a device topology but also a port topology of a layer 2 network device managed by only a device MAC (Media Access Control) address, a communication device, a management device, and a program.;SOLUTION: The communication device records transfer information associating a port number and a transmission source MAC address with each other. The management device transmits a trace request including a TTL (Time To Live) to the communication device each time when the TTL is increased in order from one by one. Next, the communication device returns a trace response including transfer information to the management device in response to the trace request of TTL=1.
