PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition useful for suppressing cell death derived from endoplasmic reticulum stress and/or cell death derived from oxidation stress. PSOLUTION: A suppressant of cell death derived from endoplasmic reticulum stress and cell death derived from oxidation stress, containing a carbazole derivative represented by general formula (I) (wherein, RSP1/SPis H or a 1-6C alkoxy; and RSP2/SP, RSP3/SPand RSP4/SPare each H, a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-6C alkyl halide, cyano or the like) or a pharmaceutically permissible salt thereof as an active ingredient, is provided.
