PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road-vehicle communication system, a lane number recognition method for the road-vehicle communication system, and an on-vehicle unit used for the same, recognizing a lane on which a vehicle travels, with high accuracy.;SOLUTION: This road-vehicle communication system comprises the on-vehicle unit 2 of the vehicle C traveling on a road R, and an optical beacon 4 having a plurality of projector/receivers 8 arranged corresponding to the different lanes on the road.
