PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte membrane, exhibiting high proton conducting property and high strength, to provide a method for manufacturing the membrane, and to provide membrane electrode assembly and a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell which have high power generation performance. PSOLUTION: The solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes a polymer electrolyte membrane 101, comprising a porous polymer film and proton conductive compound filled in an opening of the porous polymer film, and the proton conductive compound has a large cyclic structure or a calixarene structure, a membrane electrode assembly 1 that uses the polymer electrolyte membrane 101, and an electrode for extracting the current generated in the membrane electrode assembly.
