PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give adequate backlight correcting treatment to a backlit image without determining the backlit image or not. PSOLUTION: The backlit image correcting device generates data for a color-based histogram showing the distribution of the number of pixels to concentration values for the colors of the pixels in accordance with data for the pixels constituting the image. It comprises a histogram generating part, an attribute information acquiring part for separating a region shown by the color-based histogram into two or more small regions by the concentration values in accordance with the generated data for the color-based histogram, selecting at least one small region out of the two or more small regions, and acquiring color-based attribute information regarding the small region, a correction information generating part for generating correction information to apply backlight correcting processing to the image in accordance with the acquired color-based attribute information, and a backlight correcting processing part for applying the backlight correcting processing to the image in accordance with the generated correction information.
