PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drug using Acanthopanax senticosus harms exhibiting inhibitory effects on a body weight increase and to provide a method for producing the drug from the Acanthopanas senticosus Harms.;SOLUTION: The body weight increase inhibitor is prepared by burning the surface part of the Acanthopanax senticosus harms until the carbonization degree is about ≥10%, then extracting an essence with a suitable solvent (e.g. warm water at about 70°C, ethanol or a mixed solution of ethanol with water) for about all day and night, centrifuging the resultant solution, separating the centrifuged solution into an extract solution 1 and a residue, adding a solvent in an amount of 4 times that of the residue thereto, extracting active ingredients for about all day and night, then centrifuging the resultant solution and separating the centrifuged solution into an extract solution 2 and a residue. The extract solution 1 and the extract solution 2 have the inhibitory effects on the body weight increase. The action body is a caffeic acid derivative.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
