PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a therapeutic agent or a prophylactic having antihyperglycemic effect and inhibitory effect on increase in fat by promoting sugar uptake activity to muscle cells and a food and beverage containing such a therapeutic agent.;SOLUTION: The glucose uptake promoter and the agent for inhibiting a rise in blood sugar level comprise a naringenin derivative represented by general formula (R₁ is a hexose-n molecule number (n≠0) and a pentose-m molecule number (m≠0); R₂ is a hydrogen atom; * indicates isomer) and/or an extract containing the naringenin derivative as an active ingredient.
