Identifying modulators of programmed cell death, comprising interacting the motif of beclin protein and anti-apoptotic member of Bcl-2, Bcl-XL/Bcl-W protein family and detecting the interaction optionally in presence of a compound to be tested, is new. The motif comprises Gly-Thr-Met-Glu-Asn-Leu-Ser-Arg-Arg-Leu-Lys-Val-Thr-Gly-Asp-Leu-Phe-Asp-Ile-Met-Ser-Gly-Gln-Thr-Asp-Val (SEQ ID NO. 1).
