PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which, in a method for recovering a platinum group element by a roasting-(acid leaching) process from an ion exchange resin on which the platinum group element is adsorbed, the adsorbed platinum group element can be leached in high yield and can be efficiently separated from coexisting impurity elements and recovered. PSOLUTION: The method for recovering the platinum group element by the roasting-(acid leaching) process from the ion-exchange resin containing the adsorbed platinum group comprises the following steps: (1) a step of roasting the ion-exchange resin at 500 to 1,000C under an oxidation/reduction atmosphere sufficient to alloy the adsorbed platinum group element and yet to decompose resin ingredient; (2) a step of leaching the resultant roasted material using hydrochloric acid in the presence of an oxidizing agent; and (3) a step of adding potassium chloride to the resultant leachate to form a crystal of hexachloro complex salt containing the platinum group element and separate the platinum group element.
