PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new microorganism having the ability to corrode iron or iron-containing alloy, to provide a method for rating the corrosion resistance of iron or an iron-containing alloy based on corrosion caused by the microorganism, to provide a method for judging the presence/absence of such corrosion based on the detection of the microorganism from corroded site(s), and to provide a method for reducing carbon dioxide in a gas utilizing the microorganism. PSOLUTION: The new microorganism is such as to be specified as Accession No. NITE ABP-252, belonging to Methanococcales order Methanococcaeae family. The method for rating corrosion resistance based on corrosion caused by the microorganism is also provided, being characterized in comprising the following procedure: The microorganism is brought into contact with iron or an iron-containing alloy and made to exist in water containing the iron or the alloy to effect corroding the iron or the alloy.
