HEAD SLIDER, HARD DISK DRIVE, AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING FLYING HEIGHT OF HEAD SLIDER

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head slider whose flying height can be adjusted in response to a change in the environmental characteristics in which a hard disk drive is disposed, a hard disk drive having the head slider, and a method of controlling the flying height of the hear slider. PSOLUTION: A head slider 130 of the hard disk drive is provided inside with heat generating sections (e.g., a recess heat generating section 142 and a cavity heat generating section 144) which generate heat when current is supplied thereto, and the heat radiating from the heat generating sections causes a body 131 of the head slider to thermally expand in such a way that the shape of the surface of the head slider that faces a disk 107 changes. The lift force on the head slider 130 can be adjusted by the change of the shape, thereby allowing the head slider to return to an optimum flying height even if the head slider moves out of the optimum flying height thereof from the disk 107 due to environmental characteristics or the like.
