PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a detergent solution at a stabilized concentration can be fed to an automatic washing machine with a detergent feeder of inexpensive constitution, to provide a tablet detergent composition for the automatic washing machine used therefor and having excellent dissolving characteristics, washing characteristics, storage characteristics, etc., and to provide a method for washing using the composition.;SOLUTION: The tablet detergent composition comprising (A) a metal salt of a saturated fatty acid, (B) a silicate, (C) an aminocarboxylate and (D) a nonionic surfactant as essential ingredients in specific ratios, respectively is housed in a casing of the detergent feeder 16 installed in the automatic washing machine. The tablet detergent composition is then brought into contact with washing water or rinsing water jetted into the automatic washing machine to make the resultant dissolved detergent solution at a high concentration flow into a washing tank 8 of the automatic washing machine to prepare the washing water at a desired concentration.
