PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a concentrator/exchanger (main key telephone system) which houses extension telephone terminals or connects and exchanges different kinds of terminals to an external circuit, by collectively connecting other communication terminal equipment, such as facsimile equipment, LAN terminal equipment, etc., to automatically grasp the terminal connected to each connecting terminal when the terminal equipment is moved or replaced with another equipment, so that the setting and maintenance of system operation are facilitated.;SOLUTION: This concentrator/exchanger is provided with a group of equipment-connecting terminals for connecting communication terminal equipment, a tone generating circuit, which transmits a prescribed fluctuating signal to the connecting terminals, and a tone-detecting circuit which detects the reflected signal of the fluctuating signal obtained at the connecting terminals. The concentrator/exchanger is also provided with a setting and storing circuit which sets and stores whether the individual communication terminal equipment is connected respectively to the individual equipment connecting terminals, according to the detected results of the reflected signals by means of the tone- detecting circuit.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
