PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-cyano liquid crystal mixture having a high positive dielectric anisotropy value, a high birefringence value and a wide nematic temperature range, and avoiding crystallization or formation of a smectic phase even at a low temperature.;SOLUTION: This liquid crystal mixture comprises one or more fluorinated chloroterphenyl represented by formula: R-E-Cl [R denotes a non-substituted or halogen-substituted ≤15C alkyl or alkenyl group where one or more CH₂ groups may be substituted by formula α provided that oxygen atoms do not directly bond each other; E is an enantiomeric isomer represented by formula β (* shows the bonding position of a Cl atom; and at least one of benzene rings is further substituted by fluorine)] but not contain one represented by formula R-E'-Cl where E' is a real image to E.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
