PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a surface porous fiber which has a fiber surface made porous by hemispherical pores while keeping essential physical properties such as fiber strength, etc., of fiber, has wiping effect, retaining effect on dust and liquid or fixation effect on dye by its porosity.;SOLUTION: The method for producing the surface porous fiber comprises fixing solid particles having a melting point or a decomposition temperature higher than that of a thermoplastic resin to the surface of the fiber having at least the surface consisting essentially of the thermoplastic resin by fusion of the fiber surface to form a solid particle fixed fiber and then removing the solid particles of the solid particle fixed fiber.
